Ricky Grigg- his final paddle out…

Yesterday July 9th, was Ricky Grigg’s final paddle out and the Memorial was at OCC. Every one was there to pay tribute to a great waterman, scholar, teacher, and friend.                                                                     Along with Randy Rarick, who shaped all Ricky’s traditional long boards, I have had the great fortune to make his North Shore Sunset boards since 1986, and Ricky would order a new board every 2-3 years to adjust for his age. A 22″ wide 3 3/4″ thick 10’6 was the last one we did back in May of 2011, and Ryan was visiting from California for a wedding at the time, so we went for the photo. Was a classic shot! I will miss Ricky as a friend, and for all he stood for in his surfing legacy…
